Massage Therapy
Our clinic offers massage therapy to anyone seeking sessions to help relieve pain from injuries, chronic conditions, pregnancy and postnatal discomfort and relaxation, and stress relief. In most cases, a doctor's referral is not needed in order to receive massage. Massage sessions at Sullivan Physical Therapy aim to help clients move freely and without pain. A series of treatments will help to promote greater flexibility and relieve muscle strain and tension. Massage also improves functioning of the circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems, and may improve the rate at which the body recovers from injury and illness.

Sessions may include any combination of the following types of massage:

Swedish - used for relaxation and circulatory refreshment, strokes are generally more superficial in nature, and typically addresses full body

Deep Tissue - helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas, focuses on realigning deeper muscles and connective tissue, slower movement, and pressure is deeper

Trigger Point - trigger point refers to areas of tenderness in the muscle, involves application of pressure to these points in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body

Myofascial Release - therapy used to increase range of motion and promote body balance by stretching/treading connective tissue to restore tissue health, gentle-to-firm but not deep pressure

Sports Massage - good choice for a specific problem; for example: sore knee from running, frozen shoulder, torn hamstring, etc.; various techniques are performed

Pre- and Post-Natal - relaxation, stress relief, relieves neck, shoulder and lower back pain, reduction of fluid retention, helps to tone body, post-natal helps uterus return to original size
